Whoa, where did 2015 go?! Time flies when you’re having fun and it would be a serious understatement calling this past year “fun”. 2015 was by far the most exciting year of my (and Nicole’s) life. To ramble off some highlights Nicole and I…
- Road tripped to Oregon with our amazing friends Jaclyn, Ryan and their ridiculously cute dog Buddy.
- Were blessed with the news of our little one due in November.
- Explored Kauai for two weeks.
- Started my second business, a camera equipment rental business – KIT
- Worked the craziest summer of weddings yet, some together and some apart.
- Welcomed our first nephew into the Sihlis family, congrats big brother!
- Discovered what a “Baby Moon” was totally took one ourselves when we found out what it was. Whistler, you’re the best!
- And lastly, our favourite adventure yet! After a wild labor adventure (refer to Nikki’s blog HERE!) we welcomed our amazing little dude into the world. Nixon John Parker Sihlis was born on November 8th at 7:09am.
I definitely can’t even count how many photos I take in a year and I doubt my computer could even produce an accurate count. That being said, there are always some key photos that come to mind when I reflect on the past year so here are some (yes, ONLY some) of my favourites, both from our life and our amazing clients sessions. Here’s to 2016 and whatever adventures it brings!
Shot at beautiful locations in Kelowna, Okanagan, Revelstoke, Whistler, Oregon and Hawaii
These two are awesome. When we met earlier in summer to talk about their wedding we could’ve talked all day and when I learnt that Megan and Ryan are avid bikers it made total sense to get them this vintage tandem bike to cruise on. Surrounded by orchards and vineyards with a view of Kelowna, we were fortunate enough to have the most beautiful evening for their engagement shoot. Nestled in the mountains of my hometown, Revelstoke Mountain Resort will be the setting for their June wedding and I couldn’t be more stoked!

Who doesn’t love the smell of orchards so full of fruit that the trees are bending over?! For Brenna & Kyle’s session we had the joy of shooting in one of those orchards and it was AWESOME. I had a ton of fun with these two for this chill session and as the photos show, these two are so in love and perfect for each other.
Can’t wait to be back at this orchard for their August 2015 wedding, it’s going to be amazing!

With winter making it’s appearance on several mountain tops in BC this week and many recent engagements I thought it was fitting to share this post.
Where to start. Intro. I’ve known Ian and Veronique for a couple of years now, they’re two of my favourite people to see when I’m in Revelstoke skiing. Jumping back in time, I met them both through my photography work for Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Veronique works in reservations in The Sutton Place Hotel and Ian is the graphic designer for the resort. That being said, I would see them on every trip to shoot in Revelstoke.
Ok, jumping ahead to March 2014. On this particular trip, I was originally booked to shoot the Swatch Freeride World Tour which makes it’s stop in Revelstoke each year. I had drove in from Vancouver, arrived late Friday night exhausted and excited to shoot the next day. Moments after I arrived, got a phone call regarding the Tour which had just been cancelled due to very high avalanche danger. My heart sank. I was SO tired and so choked that it wasn’t just postponed, but cancelled. I called Nicole, broke the news and debated driving home to Kelowna or stay the night and maybe shoot something exciting. I texted Ian asking if it was even worth sticking around to shoot on the hill given that the weather had been really poor and thus the high avalanche rating. He told me that it was pretty mediocre but had a plan. He was going to PROPOSE! My spirits jumped back into game mode and I quickly texted back. “Ya, want photos? 😉 ” The plan was made, I was staying the night in town and the next day was going to be awesome.
Now for the good part. Proposal day. I headed to the hill early and made the hike up the sub-peak to find my hiding perch. I waited patiently for Ian to convince Veronique that she should hike the sub-peak and then it was game time. They hiked the sub-peak and Ian brought her to the perfect spot with a view of the beautiful snow covered valley. I moved to my next hiding spot behind some snow ghosts (aka snow covered trees) and by now he was down on one knee. They were too far away for me to hear anything he was saying but when she saw the ring the only thing I heard was her burst with excitement followed by her gasp as she had just realized I was shooting the whole proposal. They proceeded to enjoy the moments atop the ski hill with a few photos together and a celebratory sip of champagne. After sharing in the excitement with them and with smiles beaming on their faces, we made the leg burning decent from mountain top to valley bottom.
I now present to you, Ian and Veronique’s proposal story!
September 7th, 2014. Veronique and Ian tied the knot in Revelstoke and I was honoured to photograph their big day. These two are SO perfect for each other and Nicole and I are so lucky to have them as friends! Stay tuned for their wedding blog post!
